Electric Bikes Under £1,000 UK: A Practical Shortlist

TXED Bikes ·

A £1,000 budget gives you several distinct choices: a conventional mountain-bike shape, a compact folding bike or a bike with wide 20-inch tyres. Your daily journey and storage routine provide a useful starting point for narrowing the list.

This is a TXED-edited shortlist of published specifications, checked on 14 September 2026. We make and sell the Trail and Maverick included below. This is a specification comparison: we have not tested all six together or named an overall winner. Prices are the advertised new-bike prices on the linked UK-facing product pages; use the seller's current total for your delivery address when ordering.

Six bikes to compare

Six bikes: published specifications and listed prices
Bike and listed price Format Nominal battery energy One practical consideration
ESKUTE M100+ — £509 27.5 × 1.95-inch tyres, conventional mountain-bike shape 468 Wh Lowest listed price in this shortlist, with mechanical disc brakes.
TXED Trail — £699 27.5 × 2.3-inch tyres, conventional mountain-bike shape 468 Wh A non-folding bike with a published weight of 24kg.
Basis Hunter — £699.99 26 × 2.125-inch tyres, 17-inch frame 281 Wh V-brakes and six gears in a conventional 26-inch format.
ENGWE EP-2 Boost — £899 Folding frame, 20 × 4-inch tyres 624 Wh Wide tyres and a folding frame, with a listed weight of 30kg.
Fiido D11 — £910 Folding frame, 20 × 1.75-inch tyres 417.6 Wh Listed at 19.5kg with battery; the page showed a 5–7-week shipping estimate.
TXED Maverick — £999 Non-folding steel frame, 20 × 4-inch tyres 720 Wh Hydraulic disc brakes, with an approximately 40.4kg complete-bike weight.

The Trail's 468Wh and Maverick's 720Wh are calculated from their listed 36V 13Ah and 48V 15Ah ratings. The column compares nominal battery energy, not measured range. Distance on a charge varies with the route, load, assistance setting and conditions.

First decide whether the bike has to fold

If folding is essential, begin with the D11 and EP-2 Boost. The D11 has narrower tyres and the lower published weight of these two. The EP-2 Boost combines a folding frame with wide tyres, so it offers a different balance between format and weight. Their folded dimensions are the next useful comparison for a particular car, lift or storage space.

The Trail and Maverick use non-folding frames. Allow for their complete dimensions when planning storage: the Maverick's 20-inch figure refers to its wheel format. Its long saddle alone does not approve carrying a passenger; the model's rider and load information governs that choice.

Compare the equipment you will own

The M100+, Hunter and Trail offer three conventional mountain-bike shapes. The M100+ and Trail both list 468Wh batteries and mechanical disc brakes, at £509 and £699 respectively. The Trail has wider 2.3-inch tyres, compared with the M100+'s 1.95-inch tyres. The Hunter combines 26-inch wheels, a 281Wh battery, V-brakes and six gears. Compare those details alongside frame geometry and the maintenance support available to you.

Among the wide-tyre choices, the EP-2 Boost has a folding frame, mechanical disc brakes and a 624Wh battery. The Maverick has a fixed frame, hydraulic disc brakes and a 720Wh battery, alongside the higher published bike weight. These differences give you a concrete choice of format and equipment within the budget.

With a strict £500 ceiling, keep looking for another suitable offer: the lowest listed price here is £509. The two-bike packages below serve a separate budget for two complete bicycles.

A practical commute with the Trail

The Trail is worth considering when you want to ride the journey on a conventional 27.5-inch bike and have space for a non-folding bike at both ends. Its £699 listed price includes a 250W motor, front suspension and a 36V 13Ah battery. The 24kg published bike weight is a practical consideration wherever the journey includes moving it through a building.

Plan around the return distance, sustained climbs, the load you intend to carry and where charging is permitted. If the route changes each day, include the longer journey. Record the doors, turns and steps between the entrance and parking position at both ends. This gives you a useful set of questions to resolve before choosing the bike and any luggage equipment.

The Trail's published maximum rider weight is 100kg, alongside a separately stated 180kg maximum total load. These limits apply to different things: the total-load figure does not raise the rider limit or establish an allowance for a particular rack. Match luggage plans to the relevant accessory and mounting limits.

When folding is central to your commute, return to the D11 and EP-2 Boost comparison first. If you are choosing between the two TXED models, use the Maverick and Trail comparison for the full specification and geometry context.

Buying two bikes with one budget

Use the total for two complete bikes when comparing packages:

Totals for two complete bicycles
Two-bike choice Two individual bikes at today's listed prices Existing two-bike package total Difference
Two Trails £1,398 £1,099 £299
Two Mavericks £1,998 £1,899 £99

Each package contains two complete bikes with the corresponding single-bike equipment for each; it does not add a second battery to each bike. A per-person share is a budgeting figure—the purchase is the two-bike package. For one Trail and one Maverick, ordering the two individual bikes at these prices totals £1,698.

Before you place an order

Use the same final buying checks for every model:

  • The itemised total for your selected option and postcode, including VAT and delivery, plus the expected dispatch date.
  • Complete or folded dimensions for the storage route, and any transport operator's rules if you will take the bike aboard.
  • Rider, bicycle and accessory load limits for the setup you intend to use.
  • The manufacturer's weather and care instructions, warranty terms and returns policy.

All six linked configurations are advertised with 250W motors. For road use, also confirm the exact assistance configuration against the official electric-bike rules; our UK buying checklist explains the requirements.

Check the ownership details before ordering

Use TXED Support for model and buying questions. Check the current delivery information and warranty terms alongside the product page. Tell us which model you are considering and the detail you need confirmed.

For a conventional non-folding bike, review the Trail's dimensions and current offer. For the wide-tyre steel-frame option, review the Maverick's specifications. If neither shape meets your storage or carrying needs, keep the relevant folding alternatives on your shortlist.
