Electric bike tyre pressure: find the right starting point
Start with the pressure limits and instructions for the tyres and wheels fitted to your bicycle, then account for the load and riding conditions. There is no single PSI figure for every electric bike. Use a pressure gauge and keep a record of the front and rear settings that work within those instructions.
Read the actual tyre
Find its size, model and pressure information on the sidewall. Write the units down as well as the values: a number in bar is different from the same number in PSI. Consult the wheel or rim instructions alongside the tyre information, particularly if the system has a specific pressure restriction.
The two TXED models illustrate why a general “e-bike pressure” is too broad. Trail uses 27.5 × 2.3-inch tyres; Maverick uses 20 × 4-inch tyres. The dimensions describe different tyres. They do not supply the permitted pressure range for a particular fitted tyre.
Use the load and surface as context
Rider and luggage weight affect the load a tyre carries. Tyre width and construction also affect how it responds. Compare pressure only between clearly identified setups, rather than copying a number from a bicycle with another tyre or a much lighter load.
Schwalbe's pressure guidance explains these factors and the importance of staying within the tyre's limits. A pressure chosen for a smooth road and light luggage should be reconsidered when the load or route changes. Any adjustment still stays within the component instructions.
Measure and record
- Inspect the tyre. Look for damage, a bulge or an unexpected loss of pressure before pumping it up.
- Read with a gauge. Use a suitable pump and the correct connection for the valve. Squeezing the tyre by hand is a rough impression, rather than a pressure measurement.
- Set within the specified limits. Use the bicycle, tyre and wheel guidance for the actual load and setup.
- Record the result. Note the front and rear readings, units, load and route conditions. Keep the record when a setting changes.

Respond to a change
Tyres lose pressure over time, so make measurement part of your routine. A sudden or repeated drop deserves investigation for damage or a leak before another ride. If the sidewall marking is unclear, send TXED Support the model and a clear tyre photograph so the fitted component can be identified.
