E-Bike Locks, Tracking and Everyday Security

TXED Bikes ·

Choose an e-bike lock around the places where you leave the bicycle. A daily station stop, a workplace rack and a garage at home need different amounts of reach and different carrying arrangements. Start with a rated physical lock and a secure place to attach it, then consider tracking or electronic locking as additional equipment.

Read the full lock rating

Look up the exact model in the current approved-product list, including any size or chain-and-padlock combination. Sold Secure explains its Pedal Cycle grades as Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond in ascending order. It recommends Powered Cycle rated products for e-bikes, with Powered Cycle Diamond the highest grade in that category.

Keep the category name with the grade when comparing products. A manufacturer’s own numbered scale, a Sold Secure grade and police recognition are different pieces of information. Secured by Design’s cycle-security guide explains Police Preferred Specification and the use of independently tested products.

If you insure the bicycle, read the actual policy’s lock category, grade and parking conditions before buying. Sold Secure also recommends checking the insurer’s required grade. A rating describes performance under its test conditions; it is not a promise that a bicycle cannot be stolen or that every insurance policy will cover it.

Choose a shape that works at your parking place

Lock form Practical fitting question
D-lock or U-lock Does its usable opening reach around the intended frame section, wheel and stand without leaving unnecessary empty space?
Chain and lock Is it long enough for the actual anchor, and can you carry or store its weight securely?
Folding lock Does the unfolded reach suit the stand and frame, and is that exact model rated for your requirement?
Home anchor and lock Is the anchor suitable for the structure and installed according to its instructions, with room to secure the bicycle?

Try the intended locking arrangement before relying on it. A broad frame tube, fat tyre or crowded cycle stand can change which opening or chain length is usable. Check that the lock can be carried clear of moving parts and the controls during the ride.

Use a repeatable parking routine

Secured by Design recommends securing the frame and both wheels to recognised cycle parking, keeping the bicycle close to the stand and locks off the ground. It supports double locking while stressing the value of approved, well-rated equipment. Choose a sound fixed structure from which the locked bike cannot simply be lifted.

Use a visible, well-lit location. Take removable valuables with you and follow the bicycle’s instructions if removing its battery. Apply the same care at home: a shed or garage door is only one part of the arrangement. Record the frame number, distinguishing details and photographs, and register the bicycle with a recognised database.

Understand immobilisers, alarms and tracking

An electronic lock may disable motor assistance on a compatible drive system. For example, Bosch eBike Lock uses a digital key on its compatible system and is described by Bosch as supplementary to a mechanical lock. Disabling assistance does not attach the frame to a stand.

An alarm and location tracking add different functions. Bosch eBike Alarm, for example, requires a compatible installation with ConnectModule, the eBike Flow app and a Flow+ subscription. These are Bosch-system examples; they do not establish compatibility with Trail or Maverick.

For any tracker, compare installation, power supply, coverage, phone requirements and continuing fees. Understand what happens when the bike is parked without its main battery and how location information can be shared with police after a theft. Keep the physical locking routine in place regardless of the extra device.

When choosing a TXED e-bike, include suitable locks and a workable parking plan in the purchase budget. For model-specific fitting or electrical-device questions, contact TXED Support with the exact product and proposed installation.
